Mother's Blanket
What better way to wish your mother happy birthday and express your love to her than to knit a blanket? I have a feeling that she liked her present.

Everything Blanket
There's something about New England that fascinates me: John Irving and New Hampshire, Donna Tartt and Vermont... and the fact that I'll never be able to pronounce the name Massachusetts correctly. What I really wish is that I could have been in Montpelier, Vermont in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Around that time Ginny Callan opened her legendary Horn of the Moon Café. Since time travelling isn't really an option, I try to live the experience through Callan's wonderful cook books, Horn of the Moon Cookbook and Beyond the Moon. One of the recipes is called Everything Cookies. The recipe includes everything you can hope for in cookies: chocolate, nuts, raisins, you name it.
The newest member of my blanket family is the blanket equivalent of Everything Cookies. Like its cookie counterparts, it has everything in it: a big log cabin in the middle, a few mitred squares, some bias-squares and all the colors of the rainbow and then some.
Everything Blanket is now ready to be sent off to one of my friends. She had a really bad year, and she has no idea she's going to receive a blanket. I hope it'll be a pleasant surprise. Hopefully, being wrapped up in this blanket will make her feel a little happier.
Everything Blanket is ready to conquer the world!
I'm a bad blogger but a change is gonna come
I've been a bad bad blogger. Not only have I completely neglected my blog but I have also forgotten to photograph my knits. And as if that wasn't enough, I've forgotten to count all the new blankets. I feel like I'm living outside the blogging community. (Well, duh! What else to expect when you totally and utterly forgot your own blog!) I don't really know which patterns are IN and what kind of über-wonderful yarn all the other bloggers are ordering from New Zealand. I have no idea what is a meme or an FO and whatnot. The long and the short of it is that I've been knitting blankets. No blogging, no photographing, no nothing. Just knitting blankets, like this.
Blanket number 130
My sister said I will regret the fact that I've been too lazy to take pictures of the latest blankets. She's right, but it's too late now. All the blankets have been shipped to orphanages in Russia. It's comforting to know that they are all in good use, but still... it would have been nice to have all the pictures neatly saved and archived. The ones I had the energy to photograph you can find here. After that, I've made about 10 to 15 blankets.
But you know what, I think it's time to make some changes around here. No, I'm not going to quit knitting blankets. Nothing too drastic like that! It's only that after all this time, I'm beginning to feel like it'd be OK if I made something for my friends, too. I've always had the odd feeling that somehow it's my duty to knit blankets for Russian and Afghan orphans. But you know what, maybe making over 100 blankets for different charitable organizations is more than my share in this making the world a better place thingy. That's why I've decided to give the next blanket to one of my friends. What kind of blanket and to whom? You'll find that out tomorrow. The blanket is ready. All I have to do is to find the energy to snap some pictures.

Howdy folks!
What a surprise I had today when I visited our neighbourhood department store. The good people at Stockmann had decided to put together a New York theme. In their own sweet words:
New York arrives at Stockmann on 5 September. Latest fashion trends and ideas for your home. A lot to see, hear and taste.
Taste the City! Flavours and aromas of New York in all the Delicagtessen (sic!) departments from 5 September.
So, I immediately rushed to the aforementioned Delicagtessen department and look what I found! Oh goody!
Oh, how I envy you, New Yorkers and other Americans! I hope you realize how lucky you are! You can buy Uh-Oh Oreo cookies and Double Stuf Oreo cookies every day.
Eating Oreos has given me a sudden urge to knit... more blankets. And what could be more appropriate, since Tilkkujen Yö 2007 is a-coming. Yippee! For those of you who can't read Finnish (And why can't you? Shame on you, it's not that hard. :-D): Tilkkujen Yö is a kind of get-together for blanket knitting people. We bring our yarns and needles and - of course - loads and loads of delicagtessen. We sit and talk and knit squares for blankets all night long. Local yarn stores donate yarn for our little event, which we are hoping to develop into a massive world-renowned extravaganza. This is what Piikkopirta donated for us crazy blanket people:
And this is what I bought (not that I need to buy more yarn, but who cares):
Naturally, I could not wait for September 22nd. I simply had to start on my own:

Nothing new under the sun
Despite the fact that I haven't written a word for a couple of months, there's really nothing new under the sun. All the new blankets look exactly like my old blankets. And the socks... let's not go there. I'm boring even myself with my knits. That's why I kinda forgot to photograph some blankets before shipping them. And with some blankets I mean around ten. Or twelve. Can't remember, sorry.
So, here's blanket number 128 which is really blanket number 138 or 139. Or maybe 140. Who cares. There's nothing new, as you can see.
